About OPTP

OPTP, short for Orthopedic Physical Therapy Products, is a Minneapolis-based supplier of therapy and fitness products for healthcare professionals and individuals. Its own site says the company was started in 1979 by the late Jim Woog, PT, and that it works with experts and active professionals to create and refine its products. OPTP also publishes educational books written by industry experts and offers free webinars on health and wellness topics.

Two of its product lines appear in our guides. OPTP says it began supplying foam rollers in 1996, and its PRO-ROLLER range is made from EVA foam intended for repeated use in the gym, studio, clinic or at home. Its Original McKenzie Lumbar Roll carries the name of the McKenzie Method, which OPTP describes as used by physical therapists, chiropractors and other health professionals to treat low back pain. OPTP traces the design to Robin McKenzie in New Zealand in 1968 and says it still makes the rolls to his requirements, and its product page lists the lumbar roll as made in the USA.

Why we recognized OPTP

The BestRatedDocs Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our category reviews. OPTP earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: assessed against clinical criteria, verified specifications, and real-world user outcomes, and judged on merit.

OPTP products we rated highly

OPTP PRO-Roller Soft Density Foam Roller, 36 x 6-Inch
Top Pick 2026

OPTP PRO-Roller Soft Density Foam Roller, 36 x 6-Inch

Our foam roller guide recommends this soft density 36 x 6-inch roller for beginners, older adults and people with sensitive or recently injured tissue. The soft EVA foam gives under body weight, which helps you relax onto the roller instead of bracing against it, and the 36-inch length supports the whole spine for lying lengthwise and for thoracic extension exercises. OPTP describes the PRO-ROLLER foam as durable enough for heavy, repeated use in clinics, gyms and homes.

OPTP The Original McKenzie Lumbar Roll
Top Pick 2026

OPTP The Original McKenzie Lumbar Roll

A clinical-style support rather than a lifestyle pillow: an 11 by 4.75-inch cylinder of polyurethane foam that sits at the apex of the lumbar curve and supports the natural lordosis without contact above or below that level. It comes with a removable moisture-wicking polyester cover and an elastic strap to hold it to the chair, and OPTP lists it as made in the USA and backed by the McKenzie Method that physical therapists use. Our guide points to it for people working with a physical therapist on a diagnosed back problem.
