About Withings
Withings is a French connected-health company founded in 2008 by Eric Carreel. It is known for putting home health measurements into everyday devices: its site lists a Wi-Fi body scale as the first smart scale in 2009 and a smart blood pressure monitor in 2011. The company was acquired by Nokia in 2016 and returned to independence in 2018, when its co-founder bought the digital health business back.
The range covers smart scales, blood pressure monitors, smartwatches and sleep and thermometer devices, all feeding the free Health Mate app, which keeps long-term trends and exports readings. The Body Scan scale and the BPM Connect and BPM Pro 2 monitors have each received FDA clearance, and Withings says BPM Connect was validated in a clinical trial against the European Society of Hypertension and British Hypertension Society evaluation standards.
