TheraBand was created in 1978 by The Hygenic Corporation, a rubber manufacturer based in Akron, Ohio, after a pair of clinicians set out to build a safer, more consistent tool for patient recovery. The brand is now part of Performance Health, and its product line has grown from the original flat latex band into resistance tubing, the CLX continuous-loop system, stability trainers, exercise balls, and kinesiology tape, all built around the same elastic-resistance concept the company introduced in the 1970s.
