About Welch Allyn
Welch Allyn was founded in 1915 in Auburn, New York, by Dr. Francis Welch and inventor William Noah Allyn, who developed the first handheld, direct-illuminating ophthalmoscope together. The company moved to its long-time headquarters in Skaneateles Falls, New York, in 1953, and built the coaxial ophthalmoscope and MacroView otoscope optics that became a reference standard taught in US medical schools. Hillrom acquired Welch Allyn in 2015, and Baxter International acquired Hillrom in 2021, so the instruments sold under the Welch Allyn name today are manufactured and supported as part of Baxter's diagnostic and patient monitoring business.
Welch Allyn's product range spans handheld diagnostic instruments (otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, and combination sets), blood pressure devices under the DuraShock and Tycos lines, SureTemp electronic thermometers, Spot Vital Signs monitors, and CP-series electrocardiographs with optional spirometry for primary care.
