About ShaktiMat
In its own words, Shakti as we know it was founded in 2014, when two friends on a holiday in Thailand met the inventor of the modern bed of nails and decided to bring acupressure mats home. The brand says the first Shakti Mat was handmade in Varanasi, India, and that its craftspeople and raw materials are still based there. Its US storefront, shaktimat.com, is operated by Team Shakti USA LLC.
The mat we review pairs a certified organic cotton cover with ABS plastic spikes over a foam inner. Shakti states that all of its cotton is GOTS-certified, and that it chose ABS because a recycled plastic it tried was not sharp enough. The range comes in three intensity levels, and the Amazon listing gives 8,000, 6,000 and 4,000 spikes for Levels 1, 2 and 3. Every Shakti product is covered by a 5-year limited warranty, and matching pillows are sold separately.
